	It is Japanese too, but otherwise you're right: there is an extra line. Also, several of the strokes are done backwards.

	actually, that's chinese. japanese kanji was taken from chinese characters. lol and it's actually inked incorrectly. there's an extra line in there that shouldn't be there.
