This is my third and most recent piece- the illustration from Shel Silverstein's poem "Invitation". It's located on the right of my lower back, positioned as it is relative to the page in the book.
I got this particular illustration because, to me, it is in honor of my grandparents who have passed- mainly my mom's mom, who passed away after a valiant fight with cancer 9 years ago. Shel Silverstein was one of her most favorite authors and poets, and I remember her reading me "Invitation" when I was young.
I love this tattoo. I have fond memories myself of reading and being read Shel Silverstein as a child. His illustrations are so distinctive; this is a great homage to Shel himself, and a completely relate-able bit of memory and nostalgia. Fantastic.
