My first tattoo, on the right shoulder, a 3D perspective abstract view of a photon, a “particle of light.” The red and black undulations represent the electric and magnetic fields, resp. I crafted it to be scientifically accurate as well as artistic. The tattoo artist suggested adding the faint shadows to give it depth, but the real reason I agreed was the ironic (oxymoronic?) humor of a particle of light casting a shadow.
Thanks, Kenny. This tat seems to be a sleeper. The more people look at it, the more they like it. I may actually be inspiring other scientists to design their own tattoos.
