This is my first tattoo (got it Monday the day I turned 18). The lotus flower starts off under water as an ugly plant but when it comes to the surface it matures and becomes big, bright and beautiful. That reminds me of all of the struggles me and my sisters have experienced but now we have risen above that and become bright and beautiful just like the flower. My older sister got hers on her upper back, I got mine on my ankle and when my little sister turns 18 in two years she will probably get it too.
