just sayin but this is the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima which isnt the orginal pic it had to be retaken and these are Marines not soldiers from the army not hating on it this is a very good tattoo im just saying |

Awesome first tat, nice work!
To cavecock and jet, this wasn't a re-enactment,it was though the second flag to go up after a senior ranking officer wanted the first flag and it was replaced by a larger one, which is what this is depicting. |

I like the tattoo a lot. And if you guys want to be really technical, the picture this tattoo is based on is fake. When they took Iwo Jima there was no photographer present. He showed up next day so they reenacted for him so he could get a good shot. |

The tat is on the guy's arm and the "dents" are from three pictures taken from different angles being spliced together to make one coherent picture.

THE STRAIGHT DOPE: There are no US army personnel in this classic pic, tho the photog may have been, I don't recall. The flag was raised by Marines and one Navy Corpsman ("medic") on Iwo Jima. Doc's son put together the book "Flags of Our Fathers" |
