color... if your artist can't make it look real then he sucks. a talented tattoo artist can make a color tattoo look completely realistic. it just would need hilites. |

Definitely color...a good artist can make 3D color...so it'll look realistic. It only will look cartoony if it is done that way and if it's done that way, it should be meant to be cartoony. |

it'll only look cartoony if your "artist" is incapable of making it look otherwise. i've got a bright orange/blue octopus posted, check it out maybe it will help you decide |

Find a new artist. If the color is done right it will be fine. Checkout some Judy Parker artwork for some ideas. |
